Congressman Charles W. Dent - Pennsylvania’s 15th District
As co-chair of the Tuesday Group and leader in the Republican Main Street Partnership, Congressman Dent has pursued bipartisan consensus and a common sense approach to governing that is in the interest of the working families of his district and a less polarized nation. Congressman Dent will receive the 2017 Steve LaTourette Unified America Award for Outstanding Bipartisan Leadership. The late Steve LaTourette, former Congressman from Ohio was the first to receive this award now given in his in honor for his extraordinary efforts to bring our country and its leaders together.
Clayola Brown, President - A. Philip Randolph Institute Clayola Brown is the National President of the A. Philip Randolph Institute. The first female to serve in that role, she is a lifelong labor activist, organizer and leader. As president of APRI, she has traveled the country, and world, reminding us of the essential role that black working men and women played in building the modern labor movement, the civil rights movement, and the American middle class - a message and history that resonates today. Eva J. Henry, Commissioner - Adams County, Colorado
A lifelong resident of Adams County and single working mother, Eva Henry started her career in politics in 2007 when she successfully ran for Thornton City Council. She served in that capacity until being elected Commissioner for Adams County District 1. In both roles, Eva represented a solidly middle-to working-class, increasingly-diverse, and very bipartisan district. During her time, she has been a tireless and effective champion for regional inclusion and social equity in housing, jobs, education and transportation. 2017 Building One America's 2017 Inclusionary America Award
Kenneth E. Rigmaiden, General President, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades
For 130 years this labor union has represented men and women in the U.S. and Canada who work in industrial and commercial painting, drywall, glass, signs and other industries. Mr. Rigmaiden, who began his career in an apprenticeship program in San Jose, California in 1977, was elevated to the position of International General President in March 2013. He is the first African American General President in the history of IUPAT. Building One America's 2017 Opportunity America Award
Joseph A. McNamara
We will also be remembering Joe McNamara. Joe was a great friend of Building One America and of social justice. As director of the New Jersey Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust (LECET) with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), he a was skilled and committed advocate, a fighter for working families and for the labor movement. He will be missed.
